My name is Filip Ologeanu. I am 18 years old, born on the 3rd of July 1983, in the family of Teofil and Nina Ologeanu, both Baptist Christians. My father is a Baptist pastor, so I grew up knowing the insights of a leader's life.
At the age of 16 I had got to a point where my life was split in two: There was my school life with friends and there were the weekends in which I would usually do church related things. I knew that wasn't what God wanted me to do and the way He wanted my life to be, but I wasn't trying to do anything to change it.
In the summer of 1998 I went to a “Word of Life” camp. The Christian message and the challenges made by a councilor made me think if I were to die where was I to go? I realized that I was going to Hell and I was a sinner. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior.
A year later I dedicated my whole life to Him.
In the year 98-99 I worked in the youth club of the church and in 99-00 I was part of the leaders of the youth club. Working with teenagers brought me to realize the blessings and the beauty of working with people, especially with teenagers. In the summer of 2000 I went as a councilor in the same camp that brought me to Jesus. Again I saw the beauty of God's ministry. At a camp fire there I decided that I want to serve the Lord and decided to go to a Bible Institute to prepare my self to serve the Lord with my very best. I searched for a place to study and I found Moody Bible Institute.
Why did I choose this institute???
Romania is a changing country, with changing people (their lifestyle from the persecution to the freedom of democracy) and especially with changing churches. I find that I need to be prepared with new leading techniques and new ideas of organizing the church life. Also I would like to share with you some words of the Student life statement at Moody Bible Institute:
Guidance and Counsel
Students are offered opportunities for securing counsel about their personal, spiritual, and educational needs. Counselors in the Student Development department and members of the faculty are available to give biblical guidance.
Devotional Life
Development and maintenance of students' devotional lives are important parts of the curriculum at Moody Bible Institute. Therefore, students are encouraged to cultivate a consistent daily devotional time to enrich their personal lives and to further their growth in relationship with the Lord.
Also it is a well heard Institute all over the world. Also I have been very much inspired by the life of D.L.Moody and although it is not relevant anymore I would love to study at the institute that he founded.
Craiova is my home city. It has over 400.000 inhabitants. Our church has about 200 members. Protestant Christians represent 0.25% of the total of inhabitants. I would like to help this percentage grow.
I plan to return as pastor/missionary in my home church after I finish the 4 year courses.
Few of my ideas are:
trying to work more and rely more on the youth of the church. Challenge them to get more involved in the activities of the church;
trying to make contact with other youth organizations abroad and also inside the country and try and work together in spreading the Gospel in Craiova;
The costs of Moody Bible Institute are:
Double room w/ board, per person $2,745 per semester
Single health insurance $ 400.00 $ 626.00
The total cost of a semester of study at the Institute includes room and board, key deposit, student activity fee, facilities fee, medical insurance, books and supplies, personal expenses, and fees for some courses and majors. The first five of these, required of all students in residence, total approximately $3,600-$4,000 per semester for students housed in a double occupancy room. The cost of books and supplies is estimated at $350 per semester while personal expenses may total $200 per semester, depending on the student's needs and desires.
My financial possibilities are very limited that is why I ask you to help me go to this Bible Institute.
I've seen many missionaries come from abroad and live in my country. Why not have somebody with their studies and ideas but also one that speaks Romanian and knows the history and traditions of Romania.
Thank you for your time and May God bless you.
